This afternoon at New Farm Library Community Meeting Room there will be an info session for I Knit Brisbane 2011 – between 4pm and 6:30pm – it’s informal and a way to gauge interest in this year’s project. If you can’t make it dont worry – we’ll be confirming further sessions over the next week – so stay tuned
Dont forget if you’d like to to sign up for email updates please email: infoATiknitbrisbaneDOTcom
if you would like to be involved in the creation of the blankets for homeless use “blanket” in the subject line
if you would like to be involved in yarn bombing brisbane use “yarn bombing” in the subject line.
In the meantime how can you get started ??
if you are interested in knitting or crocheting squares for blankets to be given to the needy – it’s simple; take a ball of yarn, on the label of the ball will be information of the amount of stitches required to make a 10 x10cm square – just double it – we’re after 20 x 20 cm squares that will be stitched together to make the blankets. Any yarn is usable
If you are interested in yarn bombing the city – either generally or specifically – we are looking for pom poms and knitted lengths, but feel free to go beyond that!
Absolutely anything that could be used to decorate a statue or tree will be used – be colourful, be creative and most importantly have fun with it! You could even get a group of people together to really make an impact!
Dont forget feel free to email if you have any questions or post on our facebook page for discussion – just ignore it having last years date on it – working on changing that
Yours in craftivism.
I Knit Brisbane are sending our thoughts to those who have been affected by the devasting Qld Floods and their families.
Can you help by donating money to those affected?

***The Queensland Flood Appeal has raised over $54 million so far – a testament to Australian generosity. But while emergency responders look to the immediate physical needs of flood victims, there is also a heavy emotional toll.
In Queensland a rapid increase in mental health services is needed to cope with the despair many are experiencing upon returning to their flooded homes. Right now, Lifeline is bringing on extra staff – not just to handle the huge increase in crisis calls, but to offer face-to-face counselling to flood victims on the ground, many of whom are without phone service.
Lifeline needs urgent funds to provide these essential counselling services. Click below to make a tax deductible donation to Lifeline’s Community Recovery Project:

Lifeline’s Community Recovery Project is providing immediate relief to those suffering the trauma and stress of recent days, and will support individuals and families as they rebuild their lives in the weeks and months to come. One of their key services is financial counselling – developing a plan for financial recovery can make an enormous difference to a flood victims.
Lifeline’s immediate goal is to get 50 to 100 new counsellors trained in ‘psychological first aid’ and into the field over the next 1 to 2 weeks.
